SO MANY accounts of NH soldiers’ war experiences include price lists of the bargains or price gouges they encountered. Mr. Belknap seems to have come across 21st century prices in the taverns he frequented!  But the high prices are only part of the story; the fact that a thrifty NH yankee on his way home to his family actually PAID those prices tells us much about the value of the 
continental scrip
and the options available to the soldiers who received it as payment for the risks they took.
