Freeman Colby & Jonas Bacon have to lug two giant pots of coffee and sugar all night on the 39th MA’s dusty, endless march out of Washington City:

The officers no doubt feel a certain urgency to get their forces into play at the impending battle of Antietam. The untested enlistees of the 39th, however, feel little commitment to such a schedule; above we see the regiment in the process of straggling all to pieces over the course of the night.
