This online transcript of the 39th Massachusetts’ regimental roster lists plenty of individual service summaries.  It even features photographs of some of the men, including a striking portrait of Captain Richardson which served as a model for panel 3 above.

(The cartoon Captain looks a bit more stern than the actual photo, because he … well, you’ll see why soon enough!)

According to the roster, Colby mustered (reported for duty) 22 August, 1862.
