This online transcript of the 39th Massachusetts’ regimental roster lists plenty of individual service summaries. It even features photographs of some of the men, including a striking portrait of Captain Richardson which served as a model for panel 3 above.

According to the roster, Colby mustered (reported for duty) 22 August, 1862.
