Drawing from the Past: Using Local History Sources to Inspire Learning

A day-long workshop bringing together teachers, members of local historical societies and interested community members in an interdisciplinary approach to exploring history with COMICS 

WEDNESDAY 15 May ~ 9am-3pm
Pease Public Library, 1 Russell St., Plymouth, NH

COST: $15 (includes lunch & supplies)

TOPICS:

  • The history and key techniques of sequential art (comics)
  • Illustrating local history by synthesizing and interpreting primary sources
  • Designing rigorous, engaging comics-based history lessons & units aligned with Common Core Curriculum standards
  • Using artwork to bring local history to wider audiences

PRESENTERS:

  • Marek Bennett – NH cartoonist & educator (M.Ed.), teaching artist with AANNH & NHSCA (www.MarekBennett.com)
  • Sophia Woodley – Historian (DPhil, Oxford University), educator & AANNH board member
