In Goshen, It WAS a War…

Now here’s something interesting we couldn’t help but notice about the John W. Gunnison roadside historical marker in Goshen:

Next to the marker stand a few good-sized stone monuments listing Goshen’s veterans from all wars fought by the United States.  The plaques are decorated with martial ornaments:

… and looking closely, you might notice an unusual listing of a war:

We’d never seen “The Development of the West” listed as an actual official WAR before!  But considering the fate of hometown hero Capt. John W. Gunnison, the town of Goshen seems to consider it so…
